The best Serengeti camp is not necessarily the same throughout the year.

During periods associated with the southern Serengeti and Ndutu ecosystem, a southern location may be more practical for migration-focused travellers. During the northern migration season, travellers specifically seeking migration activity may need accommodation farther north.

This is why we consider travel month, wildlife movements, driving distances and camp availability before confirming the final Serengeti accommodation.

Why We Do Not Guarantee Great Migration River Crossings

River crossings are natural events and cannot be scheduled. Wildebeest can gather near a crossing point and then move away, wait for extended periods or cross somewhere different.

We therefore plan around the appropriate seasonal migration area rather than promising a specific crossing. The Serengeti also supports substantial resident wildlife throughout the year, so a rewarding safari should never depend entirely on witnessing one migration event.

Why Zanzibar Comes After the Safari

We generally recommend placing Zanzibar at the end of the itinerary. Safari days often involve early starts, longer drives and extensive game viewing. Finishing at the coast creates a natural change of pace and gives travellers time to relax before returning home.

For first-time visitors with approximately 10 days, Tarangire + Serengeti + Ngorongoro + Zanzibar provides a stronger balance than trying to include every Northern Circuit destination.

If you have 12–14 days, additional safari time, a more specialised migration route or extra Zanzibar nights can be added without making the itinerary feel rushed.

Yes. Ten days provides enough time for a focused Northern Tanzania safari covering Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, followed by three nights in Zanzibar. Travellers wanting a slower pace or additional beach nights may prefer a 12–14 day itinerary.

Yes. The mainland safari is operated in a private 4×4 safari Land Cruiser, giving your group greater flexibility with game-drive timing, photography stops and the overall pace of the safari.

4. What is the best time for a Tanzania safari and Zanzibar?

The itinerary can operate throughout much of the year. June to October is popular for drier safari conditions and Zanzibar beach stays, while January and February can also offer rewarding wildlife viewing and warm beach conditions. The best period depends on your wildlife and beach priorities.

5. Can I see the Great Migration during this safari?

Possibly. The Great Migration moves through different parts of the Serengeti ecosystem during the year. We can adjust your Serengeti accommodation and game-drive area according to your travel month where practical. Exact herd locations, wildlife sightings and river crossings cannot be guaranteed.

6. Can you guarantee a Mara River crossing?

No. River crossings are unpredictable natural events. Wildebeest may gather near a crossing point without crossing, move to another location or cross at an unexpected time. We focus on positioning the safari in an appropriate seasonal migration area rather than guaranteeing a crossing.

7. Can I add a Serengeti hot-air balloon safari?

Yes. A Serengeti hot-air balloon safari can be added at an additional cost, subject to availability, weather conditions and your camp location. Advance booking is recommended, particularly during peak travel periods.

8. How many nights are spent in the Serengeti and Zanzibar?

The standard itinerary includes three nights in the Serengeti and three nights in Zanzibar. This gives you two full Serengeti game-drive days and sufficient time to relax at the coast. Extra Zanzibar nights can be added.

Rather than spending an additional day travelling long distances overland, the safari portion connects with a scheduled domestic flight to Zanzibar, allowing you to move efficiently from Tanzania's northern safari circuit to the Indian Ocean coast.

After completing your Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari programme, your guide will transfer you according to the confirmed flight arrangements. The exact departure airport or airstrip depends on the final itinerary, flight availability and travel date. On arrival at Zanzibar International Airport, you will be met by a representative and transferred privately to your beach hotel.

How Long Is the Flight to Zanzibar?
