July to October – Best for the Great Migration

For families hoping to experience the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Masai Mara, July to October is generally the strongest period.

Large herds of wildebeest and zebras may move through the Masai Mara ecosystem during these months, accompanied by increased predator activity. August and September are particularly popular for travellers hoping to see activity around the Mara River.

However, the migration follows rainfall, fresh grazing and water availability rather than fixed dates. The location of the herds and Mara River crossings cannot be guaranteed.

Families travelling during July, August or September should book well in advance because this is one of Kenya's busiest safari periods.

January to March – Excellent for Family Wildlife Safaris

January to March is another excellent period for this itinerary. Conditions are often relatively dry, wildlife viewing remains strong and the Masai Mara can be less crowded than during the main migration months.

Amboseli can also provide rewarding elephant viewing, while clear weather may offer beautiful views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

For families who prioritise general wildlife viewing rather than the migration, this can be one of the best times to travel.

April and May – Green Season & Better Value

The long-rain period brings greener landscapes, fewer safari vehicles and potentially better accommodation value.

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi – Welcome to Kenya

Welcome to Kenya! Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, your family will be met by our representative and transferred privately to your Nairobi hotel.

After your international journey, the remainder of the day is intentionally kept relaxed. Depending on your arrival time, you can rest at the hotel or arrange an optional Nairobi activity. This gentle first day is particularly helpful for families travelling with children, allowing everyone time to recover from the flight before beginning the safari.

Day 4: Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru – Rift Valley & Afternoon Wildlife Viewing

Enjoy breakfast before leaving the Masai Mara and travelling toward Lake Nakuru.

The journey takes your family back through Kenya's Great Rift Valley, with comfort stops arranged along the way. After arrival and lunch, continue with an afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park.

The park offers a different environment from the open Mara plains and is particularly known for its rhino conservation. Look for black and white rhinos, Rothschild's giraffes, buffaloes, waterbucks, baboons and numerous bird species. Flamingos may also be present depending on changing lake and feeding conditions.
