A Private Kenya Safari for Your Family

Starting in Nairobi, this safari takes you to three contrasting wildlife destinations. Spend two nights in the Masai Mara searching for lions, cheetahs and other wildlife, one night near Lake Nakuru for rhino viewing, and two nights in Amboseli exploring its elephant-rich plains beneath Mount Kilimanjaro.

Your private vehicle allows flexible game drives and comfort stops, while accommodation can be tailored to your budget, children’s ages and preferred sleeping arrangements.

This is a road safari with several substantial transfers, including the journey from Lake Nakuru to Amboseli. Families with younger children can request extra nights or an alternative route for a slower pace.

Starting prices are per adult sharing a double or twin room, with two adults per room, and apply to the travel dates and minimum paying party size shown above. Each package includes five nights’ accommodation at the listed properties, itinerary meals, private 4×4 Land Cruiser transport, an English-speaking driver-guide, scheduled game drives and park entry fees.

Children are quoted separately according to their ages at travel, lodge policies and room arrangements. Smaller parties, single rooms, different accommodation and departures outside the listed dates require a revised quotation. Optional activities are charged separately. Accommodation is subject to availability; any substitution and price difference will be agreed before booking.

Children’s prices are calculated using their ages on the travel dates. Your personalised family quotation will confirm accommodation, meals, applicable park fees and room arrangements. Separate rooms, extra beds or family-room upgrades may affect the total price.

Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara – Your First Family Game Drive

Meet your guide at your Nairobi hotel for an early departure. Airport pickup can also be arranged if your arrival time allows. Travel towards the Masai Mara National Reserve, stopping at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint and taking comfort breaks along the way.

After lunch at your lodge or camp, enjoy an afternoon game drive. Children can look for giraffes, zebras and elephants while your guide introduces the animals and their habitats. Return for dinner and an evening together at your accommodation.

Day 2: Masai Mara – Wildlife Discovery at Your Family’s Pace

Explore the Mara in your private Land Cruiser, searching for lions, cheetahs, elephants and other wildlife. Your guide shares animal facts, helps children identify species and explains how the reserve protects its wildlife.

Choose a full-day outing with a packed lunch or discuss shorter game drives with a lodge break, subject to your accommodation’s location and park-entry arrangements. During the migration season, you may encounter wildebeest and zebra herds; their movements and river crossings are unpredictable.

An optional sunrise balloon safari can be arranged at additional cost, subject to the operator’s child-age and height requirements.

Day 3: Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru – Culture and Rift Valley Scenery

After breakfast, depart for the Lake Nakuru area. If your family is interested, include an optional Maasai village visit at additional cost to learn about local traditions and everyday life.

Continue through the Rift Valley with lunch and comfort stops along the way. After checking in, spend the remainder of the day relaxing. Pool time may be possible if your selected property has suitable facilities.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru to Amboseli – Rhino Viewing and a Travel Day

Start early with a focused game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, looking for black and white rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes and waterbirds.

Continue towards Amboseli with lunch and planned comfort breaks. This is the itinerary’s longest travel day, and arrival depends on the morning’s activities, traffic and road conditions. Keep the evening free for dinner and rest rather than scheduling another game drive.

Families with younger children can request an extra night or a revised route to break up the journey.

Day 5: Amboseli – Elephants, Mountain Views and Lodge Time

Return to your accommodation for lunch and a midday rest where practical, then head out for an afternoon game drive. Your guide can help children observe elephant behaviour and discover how animals depend on the park’s wetlands.

An optional stop at Observation Hill can be considered according to your family’s mobility and interests; reaching the viewpoint involves steps.

Day 6: Amboseli to Nairobi – A Final Wildlife Outing

Depending on your onward travel schedule, enjoy breakfast and a short final game drive before leaving Amboseli. Travel back to Nairobi with lunch and comfort stops, followed by drop-off at your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Confirm your flight time with our team before booking. An evening departure or an additional Nairobi overnight allows more flexibility for the road journey.
