After planning East Africa safaris for more than 16 years, one lesson is consistent: a better safari does not necessarily come from visiting more parks. It often comes from giving the right wildlife areas enough time.

Why We Give the Serengeti Two Full Days

For this seven-day itinerary, we deliberately give the Serengeti three nights and two full game-drive days. A single afternoon and morning can provide excellent sightings, but it leaves little flexibility if wildlife is quiet, weather changes or an interesting sighting develops farther from camp.

Two full days allow your guide to explore different habitats, return to productive wildlife areas and spend more time observing animal behaviour. It also means you are not constantly watching the clock because another long transfer is waiting.

Why We Don't Add Another Park Just to Fill Seven Days

It is possible to add Lake Manyara or another destination, but we don't recommend doing so simply to increase the number of parks on the itinerary.

Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro already provide three very different environments. For most first-time visitors, additional Serengeti time offers greater safari value than another short park visit.

Why Your Travel Month Matters in the Serengeti

We don't automatically use the same Serengeti camp throughout the year. Wildlife is present year-round, but the Great Migration moves through different parts of the wider Serengeti ecosystem according to rainfall and grazing conditions.

For travel during the calving season, we may recommend positioning you farther south towards the Ndutu and southern Serengeti ecosystem. During periods when migration activity is concentrated farther north, accommodation closer to the northern Serengeti may make more sense.

The objective is not to promise an exact herd location or river crossing. It is to reduce unnecessary driving and position you in the most appropriate wildlife area for your travel dates.

Our Planning Advice

If this is your first Tanzania safari and you have seven days available, we recommend resisting the temptation to visit as many parks as possible. Give the Serengeti time.

A well-planned Tarangire → Serengeti → Ngorongoro journey provides varied landscapes, excellent wildlife opportunities and a more comfortable pace than an itinerary built around changing parks and accommodation every night.
