How Do You Travel Between Kenya and Tanzania?
A Kenya–Tanzania safari requires a planned border crossing because safari vehicles and guides do not always operate freely across both countries. The two most common road routes are Namanga, normally used between Amboseli, Nairobi and Arusha, and Isebania–Sirari, commonly used when connecting the Masai Mara with the Serengeti.
At the border, travellers complete immigration formalities and may transfer to a Tanzanian vehicle and guide. When travelling from the Masai Mara to the Serengeti, allow most of the day for the road journey, border procedures and the onward drive. A scheduled flight through Migori, Tarime or another approved route can save time, although it costs more and baggage restrictions normally apply.
Travellers should confirm the current entry requirements for both countries before departure. Kenya and Tanzania have separate immigration requirements; entry approval for one country does not automatically cover the other.
