How the Tanzania Sharing Safari Works

Our 3 Days Tanzania Group Sharing Safari to Serengeti and Ngorongoro operates on scheduled departures from Arusha, allowing solo travellers, couples and small groups to explore Tanzania's famous wildlife destinations at an affordable shared-safari price.

Scheduled Departure Days: Monday, Friday and Saturday, subject to availability and operational confirmation.

Safari Vehicle & Group Size

Your Serengeti and Ngorongoro sharing safari is operated in a purpose-built 4×4 safari Land Cruiser designed for Tanzania's national parks and safari roads. The vehicle has a pop-up roof that can be opened during game drives for wildlife viewing and photography.

Each safari vehicle carries a maximum of 7 travellers, plus the professional driver-guide. Keeping the group to this size provides each guest with access to a window and allows everyone to enjoy good viewing opportunities during game drives.

As this is a sharing safari, you may travel with guests of different nationalities who have booked the same departure. This creates a social safari experience while helping keep the cost considerably lower than booking a private vehicle.

What the Safari Vehicle Offers

  • 4×4 capability for Tanzania's safari roads

  • Pop-up roof for game viewing and photography

  • Window access for each safari guest

  • Professional driver-guide

  • Drinking water carried during the safari

  • Shared luggage storage

  • Charging facilities where available, depending on the vehicle

Prefer more flexibility? A private safari can also be arranged for travellers who want their own vehicle, a more flexible daily schedule or a safari exclusively for their party.

Expected Arusha Return: Approximately 5:00–7:00 PM on Day 3, subject to operating conditions.

Best Time for This 3-Day Tanzania Safari

The Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater can be visited throughout the year, making this 3-day Tanzania sharing safari suitable for most travel months. Wildlife experiences, landscapes and weather conditions vary by season.

June to October – Dry Season

The dry season generally provides excellent wildlife-viewing conditions. Vegetation becomes less dense in many areas, and animals often concentrate around available water sources. Days are usually dry and comfortable, although early mornings and nights—particularly around the Ngorongoro Crater rim—can be cold.

December to March – Green & Calving Season

This period brings greener landscapes to northern Tanzania. The wider Serengeti ecosystem can offer excellent wildlife experiences, while the Great Migration herds are generally associated with the southern Serengeti and Ndutu region during the calving period. Herd locations vary according to rainfall and grazing conditions.

April to May – Green Season

The wetter months bring lush scenery, fewer visitors in many areas and excellent photographic landscapes. Travellers should be prepared for occasional heavy rain and potentially muddy roads.

November – Short Rains

November commonly brings short seasonal rains, although weather patterns vary from year to year. The landscape begins turning greener, and wildlife viewing can still be rewarding.

Important: Wildlife is free-ranging, and sightings cannot be guaranteed. The location and timing of the Great Wildebeest Migration vary according to rainfall, grazing conditions and natural herd movements.

What to Pack for a Tanzania Camping Safari

Packing light is recommended for this Tanzania group camping safari, particularly because luggage space is shared with other travellers in the safari vehicle. A soft-sided travel bag or duffel bag is preferable to a large hard-shell suitcase.

Recommended Safari Packing List

  • Lightweight, comfortable clothing in neutral colours
  • Warm fleece, sweater or jacket for cool mornings and nights
  • Long trousers and long-sleeved shirts
  • Comfortable walking shoes or trainers
  • Sun hat and sunglasses
  • Sunscreen and lip balm
  • Insect repellent
  • Personal toiletries
  • Small towel
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Camera, spare batteries and memory cards
  • Binoculars if you have your own
  • Power bank and charging cables
  • Small daypack for items needed during game drives
  • Personal medication and a basic first-aid kit
  • Passport and required travel documents
  • Flashlight or head torch for use around the campsites
  • Sleeping bag if it is not included in your safari package

What to Pack for Ngorongoro

Simba Public Campsite is on the Ngorongoro Crater rim, where evenings and early mornings can be considerably cooler than the Serengeti plains. Pack a warm jacket, long trousers and an additional warm layer

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is 3 days enough for a Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari?

Yes. A 3-day Tanzania safari is enough to experience both Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater if you are comfortable with a faster-paced itinerary. You will have game-viewing opportunities in Central Serengeti and a dedicated crater game drive before returning to Arusha. Travellers wanting more relaxed game-viewing time may prefer a 4- or 5-day safari.

2. How does the 3 Days Tanzania Sharing Safari work?

This is a group-sharing safari, meaning you join other travellers following the same itinerary and share the safari vehicle, driver-guide and operating costs. The group departs from Arusha, travels together through Serengeti and Ngorongoro, and returns to Arusha on Day 3.

3. How many people share the safari vehicle?

We accommodate a maximum of 7 travellers per safari vehicle. Safaris are operated in a 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof for wildlife viewing and photography. As this is a sharing safari, you may travel with guests from different countries who have booked the same departure.

4. Can solo travellers join this Tanzania group safari?

Yes. Solo travellers are welcome and can book a seat on an available group departure without hiring an entire private safari vehicle. This makes the tour particularly suitable for solo travellers looking for an affordable Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari.

5. Where do we stay during the safari?

This is a budget camping safari. The first night is spent at a public campsite in the Seronera area of Central Serengeti, and the second night is at Simba Public Campsite on the Ngorongoro Crater rim. Facilities are basic and shared, providing a more adventurous safari experience than a lodge or permanent tented camp.

6. Are meals and camping equipment included?

Yes. Meals specified in the itinerary and standard camping equipment such as tents and mattresses are included. Meals are prepared during the safari. Check whether a sleeping bag is included in your confirmed package or whether you need to bring or hire one.

7. Does this safari include a Ngorongoro Crater game drive?

Yes. On Day 3, you descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive before travelling back to Arusha. The crater supports a remarkable variety of wildlife, including wildebeest, zebras, buffaloes, hippos, elephants, hyenas and lions. Black rhinos may also be seen, although no wildlife sighting can be guaranteed.

8. Where does the 3-day Tanzania sharing safari start and end?

The safari starts and ends in Arusha, Tanzania. You depart for Serengeti National Park on Day 1 and return to Arusha after your Ngorongoro Crater game drive on Day 3. Airport transfers and accommodation before or after the safari can be arranged at an additional cost.

9. What is the best time for a 3-day Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari?

The safari can operate throughout the year. June to October generally offers dry-season conditions, while December to March brings greener landscapes and seasonal migration activity in the wider southern Serengeti ecosystem. April and May are wetter and typically quieter. Wildlife and migration movements vary according to rainfall and natural conditions.

10. Can I upgrade this sharing safari to a private or lodge safari?

Yes. If you prefer more privacy and flexibility, the itinerary can be arranged as a private Tanzania safari with your own 4×4 vehicle and driver-guide. You can also request an upgrade from public camping to mid-range tented camps or lodges, subject to availability and additional cost.

11. Are the 3 Days Tanzania Sharing Safari departures guaranteed?

Our 3-day Serengeti and Ngorongoro group-sharing safari operates on scheduled departures from Arusha, subject to available seats and the required minimum participation. Solo travellers can join an existing confirmed group. Our reservations team will confirm your departure date, pickup arrangements and safari availability before booking.

Guest Reviews – Serengeti & Ngorongoro Sharing Safaris

★★★★★ “Amazing Serengeti & Ngorongoro Camping Experience”

Guest: Daniel M.
Country: United Kingdom
Travel Month: July 2026
Group Type: Solo Traveller
Safari Highlights: Serengeti • Ngorongoro Crater • Camping • Group Safari

Joining the group was a great option as a solo traveller. The three days were busy, but the itinerary gave us plenty of opportunities to enjoy wildlife in both the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Camping in the Serengeti made the experience feel much more adventurous, and travelling with other guests was part of the fun. The guide was knowledgeable and gave everyone opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography.

★★★★★ “Great Budget Safari for a Short Tanzania Trip”

Guest: Sophie L.
Country: France
Travel Month: June 2026
Group Type: Couple
Safari Highlights: Central Serengeti • Wildlife • Ngorongoro Crater

We only had a few days available for safari, and this itinerary allowed us to experience both the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. There was quite a lot of driving, but the wildlife and landscapes made the journey worthwhile. The campsites were basic, as expected on a budget camping safari. Our favourite experience was exploring Ngorongoro Crater on the final day.

★★★★★ “A Real African Camping Adventure”

Guest: Marco R.
Country: Italy
Travel Month: August 2025
Group Type: Friends
Safari Highlights: Seronera • Public Camping • Wildlife • Ngorongoro

Camping in the Serengeti was one of the most memorable parts of the trip. This is a genuine camping experience rather than luxury accommodation, which was exactly what we wanted. We loved waking up in the Serengeti and heading directly out for wildlife viewing. Simba Campsite at Ngorongoro was noticeably cooler at night, so warm clothing was definitely useful.

★★★★★ “Perfect for a Solo Traveller Joining a Group”

Guest: Emma K.
Country: Germany
Travel Month: September 2025
Group Type: Solo Traveller
Safari Highlights: Group Sharing • Serengeti • Ngorongoro • Wildlife

I was travelling alone and didn't want the expense of booking a private safari, so joining a group was a good solution. Travelling with people from different countries made the experience enjoyable. The itinerary was fast-paced, but we still had rewarding game drives in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. I would recommend this style of safari to adventurous travellers who are comfortable with basic camping.

★★★★★ “Three Days Packed with Wildlife”

Guest: James T.
Country: Australia
Travel Month: February 2025
Group Type: Couple
Safari Highlights: Serengeti • Ngorongoro Crater • 4×4 Game Drives

For such a short safari, the itinerary covered an impressive amount. The Serengeti offered beautiful open landscapes and excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, while Ngorongoro Crater provided a completely different safari environment. The trip included early mornings and long drives, but we expected that from a three-day itinerary. It was a good option for experiencing both destinations when time was limited.
