6 Days Tanzania Group Safari Highlights

  • Explore Four Northern Circuit Destinations – Visit Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara on one six-day Tanzania safari.

  • Elephants & Baobabs in Tarangire – Explore landscapes famous for large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees and diverse wildlife.

  • Two Nights in Serengeti National Park – Enjoy an arrival game drive, a full day of wildlife viewing and additional game viewing before continuing to Ngorongoro.

  • Descend into Ngorongoro Crater – Spend approximately 5–6 hours exploring the crater floor in search of lions, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and other wildlife.

  • Discover Lake Manyara National Park – Finish your safari among forests, floodplains and Rift Valley scenery known for elephants, primates and abundant birdlife.

  • Comfortable Mid-Range Safari – Stay in selected lodges and tented camps, including Eileen's Trees Inn and Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp or comparable properties.

Is a 6-Day Tanzania Safari Worth It?

For many first-time visitors, 6 days is an excellent length for a Tanzania Northern Circuit safari because it provides more wildlife-viewing time than a shorter tour without requiring a full week or longer on safari.

This itinerary combines Tarangire National Park, two nights in Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park. Compared with shorter group safaris, the extra time allows you to explore four different wildlife areas while spending meaningful time in the Serengeti.

Why Choose the 6-Day Safari?

The 6-day option offers the broadest Northern Circuit coverage among these group itineraries, with four major wildlife destinations and two nights in the Serengeti. It is particularly suitable for first-time visitors who want more than a quick Serengeti and Ngorongoro trip but still want to keep their safari to less than a week.

If you have less time, our 3-, 4- and 5-day Tanzania group safaris offer shorter alternatives following similar Northern Circuit routes.

6 Days Tanzania Group Sharing Safari Itinerary

Experience Tanzania's spectacular Northern Safari Circuit on this 6-day group joining safari from Arusha, exploring Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park. Travel in a shared 4×4 Land Cruiser with a professional English-speaking safari driver-guide, enjoy exciting wildlife encounters and stay in comfortable mid-range lodges and tented camps.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park – Game Drive & Overnight in Karatu

Your Tanzania group safari begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel or designated meeting point in Arusha, generally between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM, depending on the confirmed group arrangements. Meet your fellow travellers and safari driver-guide before departing for Tarangire National Park, approximately 2–2.5 hours away by road.

Enjoy a game drive through landscapes dotted with ancient baobab trees and along the Tarangire River, which attracts elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and numerous bird species. Stop for a picnic lunch before continuing your wildlife exploration. Later in the afternoon, depart the park and drive towards Karatu, arriving in time for dinner and relaxation.

Accommodation: Eileen's Trees Inn, Karatu
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Safari highlights: Tarangire elephants, baobab landscapes and afternoon wildlife viewing.

Day 2: Karatu to Serengeti National Park – Scenic Drive & Afternoon Game Drive

After an early breakfast at Eileen's Trees Inn, depart Karatu and travel towards Serengeti National Park through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The route offers beautiful highland scenery, expansive plains and opportunities to observe wildlife along the way. Depending on visibility and the day's schedule, enjoy scenic viewpoints and photography stops before continuing towards Central Serengeti.

Allow approximately 6–8 hours for the overall travel and game-viewing journey, including conservation-area entry formalities, road conditions, scenic stops and wildlife viewing. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route and continue with a game drive as you enter the Serengeti, searching for lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras and other wildlife. Arrive at your tented camp later in the afternoon or early evening.

Accommodation: Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp, Central Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Safari highlights: Ngorongoro Highlands, Serengeti plains and afternoon game viewing.

Day 3: Full-Day Serengeti National Park Safari – Big Five & Wildlife Exploration

Spend a full day exploring the world-famous Serengeti National Park, one of Africa's most remarkable wildlife destinations. After an early breakfast, depart for an extensive game drive across the open plains, river valleys and wildlife-rich areas of Central Serengeti. Your guide will select suitable routes based on recent animal sightings, seasonal wildlife movements and prevailing park conditions.

Look for lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, cheetahs, giraffes and large herds of grazing animals. Rhinoceros sightings are possible but uncommon in Central Serengeti, and no particular wildlife encounter can be guaranteed. Enjoy a picnic lunch in a designated area before continuing your afternoon game drive. Return to camp in the evening for dinner and relaxation beneath the African sky.

Accommodation: Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp, Central Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Safari highlights: Full-day Serengeti game drives, predators, plains wildlife and photography.

Day 4: Serengeti to Karatu via Ngorongoro Highlands – Scenic Safari Transfer

After breakfast, enjoy a final wildlife-viewing opportunity in Serengeti National Park as you begin your journey towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Your driver-guide will navigate through the Serengeti plains, allowing time for possible wildlife sightings and scenic photography stops along the way.

Continue through the Ngorongoro Highlands, where the landscapes change from expansive grasslands to rolling hills and cultivated countryside. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route and proceed towards Karatu, located outside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Allow approximately 5–7 hours for the transfer and associated stops, depending on wildlife activity, road conditions and park formalities. Arrive at Eileen's Trees Inn in the afternoon or early evening for dinner and overnight accommodation.

Accommodation: Eileen's Trees Inn, Karatu
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Safari highlights: Serengeti wildlife viewing, Ngorongoro Highlands and scenic landscapes.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Safari – Big Five Game Drive & Return to Karatu

After an early breakfast, depart Karatu and drive towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area for one of the most memorable experiences of your Tanzania group safari. Travel through the highlands to the crater access route before descending approximately 600 metres to the crater floor, where an extraordinary concentration of wildlife inhabits grasslands, wetlands and acacia woodland.

Enjoy approximately 5–6 hours of game viewing inside Ngorongoro Crater, subject to park regulations and the day's operating schedule. Search for lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, hippos and, with luck, the endangered black rhinoceros. Stop for a picnic lunch at a designated site before ascending the crater and returning to Karatu in the afternoon.

Accommodation: Eileen's Trees Inn, Karatu
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Safari highlights: Ngorongoro Crater, black rhino possibilities, Big Five wildlife and crater landscapes.

Day 6: Lake Manyara National Park – Morning Game Drive & Return to Arusha

After breakfast at Eileen's Trees Inn, check out and drive to Lake Manyara National Park, known for its groundwater forests, diverse birdlife, elephants, hippos and occasional tree-climbing lions. Enjoy a morning game drive through the park's varied habitats, with opportunities to observe monkeys, giraffes, buffaloes and other wildlife against the scenic backdrop of the Great Rift Valley escarpment.

After your wildlife experience and lunch, begin the return journey to Arusha, approximately 2–2.5 hours by road from the Lake Manyara area. Arrival in Arusha is generally expected between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, depending on park activities, road conditions and traffic. Drop-off will be arranged at the designated location, marking the end of your six-day Tanzania group safari.

Important travel advice: Avoid booking early afternoon onward flights. For international departures, we recommend an additional overnight stay in Arusha or confirming a suitable flight connection with our reservations team.

Accommodation: Not included – End of Safari
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
Safari highlights: Lake Manyara wildlife, Rift Valley scenery and return to Arusha.

What Your USD 1,995 Safari Price Covers

Your six-day Tanzania group safari includes 5 nights of mid-range accommodation, transport in a shared 4×4 safari Land Cruiser, a professional English-speaking Tanzania safari driver-guide, full-board meals while on safari, scheduled game drives, national park entry fees, Ngorongoro Conservation Area fees and the Ngorongoro Crater service fee.

Accommodation is planned at Eileen's Trees Inn in Karatu and Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp in the Serengeti, or comparable mid-range properties if the preferred accommodation is unavailable. Final lodge arrangements and room categories will be confirmed before booking.

The advertised price is based on two travellers sharing a double or twin room while participating in a shared group safari. Solo travellers are welcome and may join an available departure, with a single-room supplement applicable when occupying a private room.

Why Our Tanzania Group Sharing Safari Costs Less

Unlike a private Tanzania safari, where you cover the entire cost of your vehicle and driver-guide, our group sharing safari allows travellers to share the 4×4 Land Cruiser, guiding expenses and transport costs with other guests on the same scheduled departure.

This reduces the overall cost per person while maintaining the benefits of:

  • Comfortable mid-range accommodation in lodges and permanent tented camps rather than basic public campsites.

  • Professional safari guiding throughout the six-day itinerary.

  • Shared 4×4 Land Cruiser game drives with a maximum of seven travellers per vehicle.

  • Four major wildlife destinations: Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara.

  • Included park and conservation fees, as specified in the safari inclusions.

  • Five nights of accommodation with meals as outlined in your confirmed itinerary.

This safari is particularly suitable for travellers who want a more comfortable experience than a basic camping safari while spending less than they would on a private mid-range Tanzania safari.

Price Validity & Important Booking Information

Our 6 Days Tanzania Group Sharing Safari starts from USD 1,995 per person sharing for selected 2027 departures. The final price may vary depending on your travel dates, seasonal accommodation rates, room occupancy, lodge availability and applicable park or government fees.

How the Group Sharing Safari Works

Our 6 Days Tanzania Group Sharing Safari offers an affordable way to explore Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park. Instead of booking a private safari, travellers join a small group and share the cost of transportation, an experienced safari driver-guide and scheduled game drives while enjoying comfortable lodge and tented camp accommodation.

1. Scheduled Group Departures

Our Tanzania group safaris are scheduled to depart from Arusha every Monday, Friday and Saturday, subject to available seats and final departure confirmation. Travellers select their preferred date, and our reservations team confirms availability before booking.

2. Small Group Size

Each safari accommodates approximately 6–7 travellers in a shared 4×4 Land Cruiser, depending on the vehicle configuration. The vehicle features a pop-up roof for wildlife viewing and photography. Guests travel together throughout the safari, accompanied by a professional English-speaking driver-guide.

3. Shared Safari Vehicle & Game Drives

All group members follow the same six-day itinerary, sharing transportation and scheduled wildlife activities. Your guide coordinates game drives, wildlife-viewing stops, park entry and daily departure times to ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone.

4. Accommodation & Room Arrangements

Although guests share the safari vehicle, accommodation is arranged according to their confirmed booking. Couples can request double rooms, friends can request twin rooms, and solo travellers can request private accommodation. A single-room supplement may apply.

The planned accommodation includes Eileen's Trees Inn in Karatu and Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp in Central Serengeti, subject to availability and booking confirmation.

5. Safari Pick-Up & Drop-Off

The safari starts and ends in Arusha, Tanzania. Pick-up is arranged from designated hotels or agreed meeting points, with the exact time communicated before departure. On Day 6, guests return to Arusha after their Lake Manyara game drive.

Airport transfers and additional accommodation before or after the safari can be arranged upon request.

6. Meals, Luggage & Personal Expenses

Meals, accommodation, park fees and shared safari transportation are provided according to the confirmed package inclusions. We recommend travelling with a soft-sided bag and a small daypack because luggage space is limited.

Personal expenses, tips, travel insurance, international flights and optional activities are excluded unless otherwise specified.

7. How to Join & Book Your Safari

Booking your Tanzania group safari is straightforward:

  1. Choose your departure date – Select a scheduled Monday, Friday or Saturday.

  2. Send your enquiry – Provide your travel dates, number of travellers and room preferences.

  3. Confirm availability – Our team checks available group seats, accommodation and the applicable price.

Best Time for This 6-Day Tanzania Safari

This 6 Days Tanzania Group Sharing Safari can be enjoyed throughout the year, with each season offering a different experience across Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara. Tanzania's dry season generally provides easier wildlife viewing around water sources, while the greener months bring lush landscapes, birdlife and dramatic scenery.

June to October – Dry Season

June to October is one of the most popular periods for a Tanzania safari. Conditions are generally drier, vegetation becomes less dense in many areas and wildlife often concentrates around permanent water sources. Tarangire can be particularly rewarding during this period as elephants and other animals gather around the Tarangire River.

The Serengeti remains excellent for general wildlife viewing, although the location of the Great Wildebeest Migration changes throughout the year.

November to March – Green Season

The short rains usually begin around November, transforming parts of the Northern Circuit into greener landscapes. This period can offer excellent photography, abundant birdlife and rewarding game viewing.

January and February are particularly associated with the southern Serengeti ecosystem's calving period. However, this standard group itinerary does not guarantee that it will visit the exact location of the migration herds.

April to May – Long Rains

April and May are generally the wetter months. The landscape is lush and green, visitor numbers can be lower and birdlife can be excellent. Rain may make some tracks muddy or affect road conditions, but safari travel remains possible depending on local conditions.

When Can I See the Great Wildebeest Migration?

The Great Wildebeest Migration is a natural, year-round movement, and the herds do not remain in one part of the Serengeti throughout the year. Their location is influenced by rainfall, grazing conditions and seasonal movement.

This six-day safari includes the Serengeti and therefore offers the possibility of encountering migration herds at certain times of year, but specific migration sightings or river crossings cannot be guaranteed.

If seeing a particular stage of the Great Migration is your main priority, ask us about the most suitable Serengeti region and safari itinerary for your travel month before booking.

Why Choose This 6 Days Tanzania Group Safari?

Four Parks in One Safari

Experience Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara, combining different landscapes and wildlife habitats across Tanzania's Northern Circuit.

More Time in the Serengeti

Spend two nights in Serengeti National Park, with an arrival game drive, a full day of wildlife viewing and additional game viewing before travelling towards Ngorongoro.

Mid-Range Comfort at a Shared-Safari Price

Stay in comfortable mid-range lodges and tented camps while sharing the safari vehicle and guide costs with other travellers.

Ideal for Solo Travellers, Couples & Friends

Reserve individual seats without having to organise your own group, with a maximum of 7 travellers per safari vehicle.

Scheduled Monday, Friday & Saturday Group Departures

Join our scheduled Tanzania group safaris from Arusha every Monday, Friday and Saturday, subject to available seats and final departure confirmation. Our reservations team will confirm your travel date, accommodation and group arrangements before booking.

Who Is This 6-Day Tanzania Group Safari Best For?

This safari is particularly suitable for:

  • Solo travellers who want to join a confirmed safari rather than pay private-tour rates.
  • Couples and friends looking for a mid-range Tanzania safari at a lower shared cost.
  • First-time Tanzania visitors who want to experience Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara in one trip.
  • Wildlife-focused travellers who want two Serengeti nights plus an extensive Ngorongoro Crater game drive.
  • Travellers continuing to Zanzibar who want a Northern Circuit safari before a beach holiday.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is 6 days enough for a Tanzania safari?

Yes. Six days gives you enough time to explore Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara, including two nights in the Serengeti and a full day of Serengeti game viewing.

2. How many people share the safari vehicle?

Our group safaris carry a maximum of 7 travellers per 4×4 Land Cruiser. Most departures operate with 6–7 guests depending on confirmed bookings.

3. Can solo travellers join this Tanzania group safari?

Yes. Solo travellers are welcome and can reserve an individual seat without organising their own group. A single-room supplement applies where private accommodation is required.

4. Does this 6-day safari include the Serengeti?

Yes. The safari includes two nights in Serengeti National Park, with an arrival game drive, a full day of game viewing and additional wildlife viewing before travelling towards Ngorongoro.

5. Is Ngorongoro Crater included in the safari price?

Yes. Ngorongoro Conservation Area entry and the Ngorongoro Crater game drive are included, together with the applicable park and crater fees stated in your confirmed safari package.

6. Where does the Tanzania group safari start and end?

The safari starts and ends in Arusha. Hotel pickup is arranged on Day 1, and the group returns to Arusha after Lake Manyara on Day 6. Airport transfers and additional Arusha hotel nights can be arranged separately.

7. What should I pack for a 6-day Tanzania safari?

Pack lightweight neutral-coloured clothing, a warm layer for mornings and evenings, comfortable shoes, sun protection, insect repellent, personal toiletries and a small day bag. We recommend a soft-sided travel bag because luggage space in shared safari vehicles is limited.

8. Can I join this safari after arriving from Zanzibar?

Yes. You can fly from Zanzibar to Arusha or Kilimanjaro before joining the safari. We recommend arriving in Arusha at least one day before departure, and we can arrange flights, airport transfers and pre-safari accommodation if required.

9. Are the 6 Days Tanzania Group Safari departures guaranteed?

Our 6 Days Tanzania Group Sharing Safari has scheduled departures every Monday, Friday and Saturday from Arusha, subject to group availability and booking confirmation. While we aim to operate our scheduled departures, availability and operating arrangements must be verified before a booking is confirmed. Our reservations team will confirm your preferred date, available seats and final safari arrangements in writing.

10. Is the Great Wildebeest Migration guaranteed on this safari?

No. The safari visits the Serengeti, so you may encounter migrating herds depending on the season and their location, but specific migration sightings and river crossings cannot be guaranteed. If the Great Migration is your priority, ask us which itinerary and Serengeti region best suit your travel month.
