Half Day City, Table Mountain and V&A Waterfront

Half Day Tour - Daily
At 0830 you are collected from your hotel or guest house and taken directly to the lower cableway station on the slopes of Table Mountain. Weather permitting, ascend the mountain by aerial cable car. From a height of 1067 metres view the city and Table Bay below; also Robben Island, the Atlantic seaboard and most of the spectacular Cape Peninsula. Head down into the Malay Quarter with its narrow cobbled streets and colourful Mosques. Having parked at the top of Government Avenue stroll to the National Gallery and SA Museum. View the Houses of Parliament. Then to the City Hall on the Grand Parade and later a visit to the Castle. Enter the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront that abounds with shops, pubs, restaurants and entertainment. You may leave the tour here to explore on your own or return to your hotel at about 1300.

Full Day Cape Point and Peninsula

Full day Tour - Daily
0830 collection from your hotel. First visit the exclusive suburbs of Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay. Continue via Llandudno to the fishing harbour of Hout Bay. If calm seas prevail, join an optional launch cruise to view the Duiker Island seals and cormorants at close quarters. Enter the Cape Point Nature Reserve where you will be taken to the best vantage point to view what is erroneously said to be the meeting place of two mighty oceans. After a stop for an optional lunch (lunch price not included in the cost) the tour continues to a Jackass penguin colony, the Naval hamlet of Simon's Town and then via Fishhoek and Kalk Bay to Muizenberg. In the early afternoon visit the Groot Constantia wine estate with its Cape Dutch manor house and then the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens at the base of Skeleton Gorge. Return to the city via Rhodes Drive that bisects the plush suburbs of Bishopscourt, Claremont and Newlands. The tour terminates at your hotel at about 1730.

Full Day Cape Wine Route

At 0830, after collection from your hotel, we leave the city and head along the N1 motorway to visit the Afrikaans Taal Monument on the outskirts of Paarl. Next we stop at the entrance of the Victor Verster Prison from which President Nelson Mandela was released from detention. A scenic drive is taken to the Franschhoek Valley to visit the memorial to the French Hugenots. Visit one of the many fine wine estates in the region. A cellar tour and a tasting of “the nectar of the gods” is included. Cross the Helshoogte Pass (Hell's Heights) and descend into historic Stellenbosch, centre of learning, rugby and the wine industry. We stop for an optional lunch (lunch price not included) washed down with local wines. After a short guided tour of the second oldest South African town a unique shopping experience awaits you at Oom Samie se Winkel (Uncle Sam's Shop). The tour terminates at about 1730 at your hotel.

Robben Island and Townships

Full Day Tour - Daily
Our tour departs at 0900 and endeavours to identify and understand the culture of the New South Africa. We proceed through the historic Malay Quarter discovering the origins of our multi-cultural city and its people. The tragic saga of “Forced Removals” then unfolds as we drive through the remains of the once vibrant District 6 and visit its living museum. Then it’s off to the Townships, visiting examples of “black” and “coloured” townships focussing on development issues of Education, Health Care and Housing. In Langa we visit the Chris Hani Community school as well as the Tsoga Environmental Centre where we are taken on a walking tour by local community guides. We go via Bonteheuwel to Guguletu where we stop off at the Uncedo Pottery Project, and then to the Weltevreden Park Government Housing Development Site. We then return to the city for lunch (lunch price not included) at the Waterfront before departing at 1400 on the ferry to Robben Island where ex-prisoners become tour guides and take us on a walking and driving tour of this political prison where Nelson Mandela was jailed for 19 years.

FULL DAY CAPE POINT (Full Day)

We pick up at hotels situated in the CBD of Cape Town or in Seapoint (between 8:30 and 9:30 depending where you are staying). We then flank the cold Atlantic Ocean en route to Hout Bay. Once a fishing community, now one of the most popular residential areas, the harbour still has a charm of days gone by. A chance to join the M.V "Circe" for a optional half hour cruise to "Seal Island" or for the not so adventurous, the fish market "Mariners Wharf" is a must. The tour now continues over the famous Chapmans Peak drive, with a 200 meter drop on one side of the coach and a 200 meter rise on the other, as we make our way south, following the Atlantic Ocean and then we stop for lunch in Fishhoek. Our choice for the day is the Galley restaurant, known for its seafood. It is also situated right on the Fish Hoek beach, so those in the group that would like to experience the Indian ocean first hand, can have a chance to dip their toe in the water. We now continue along the Indian Ocean, and stop to see the Jackass penguin colony which has become well established at Boulders beach near Simonstown. Then we travel onwards until we reach Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope. Said to be the romantic meeting place of the two mighty oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian, Sir Francis Drake the Explorer once called it "the fairest Cape that we saw in the whole circumference of the Globe". And rightly so, it must be the highlight of any visit to the Mother City, if not South Africa. Our last stop of the day is at the Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens, home of some 3 500 species of Southern African fauna and flora. We return to the hotel at about 17h30, having seen the best the Cape has to offer.

FULL DAY WINELANDS (Full Day)

We pick up at hotels situated in the city or Seapoint and head north to Paarl. Our fist stop this morning is the "Taal Monument". Not only does this give the group a cultural background to some of the languages of this country, but being situated on the summit of Paarl rock, it offers the most fantastic view of the surrounding area. Our morning winetasting will be at KWV. After a tour through their impressive cellars that includes a photographic presentation on the history of winemaking in South Africa, a chance to sample some of their local wines. A brief city tour of Paarl follows, before we make our way to Franschhoek. This little village nestled amongst the mountains, can easily be mistaken as being in Switzerland. Time for lunch and today's choice brings us to the "Ballon Rouge" restaurant. Based on French cuisine, the owner will ensure that you try some of the trout that Franschhoek is known for. After lunch the tour continues to the famous Boschendal estate for an afternoon tasting of their wines before we reach Stellenbosch. It is easy to understand why Simon van der Stel decided to settle a village amongst the mountains. The backdrop of the Hottentots Holland mountains, the white gabled Cape Dutch homesteads and the oak lined streets and lanes all blend in to give this place a charm that will not be quickly forgotten. Then we set off on the return to Cape Town, to be back at the hotel by about 17h30.
