Wildlife You May See on Your 10 Days Kenya Tanzania Budget Group Safari

Our 10 Days Kenya Tanzania Budget Group Safari offers opportunities to encounter Africa's Big Five, big cats, elephants, giraffes, wildebeest and diverse birdlife across six remarkable wildlife destinations.
Big Five & Big Cats
Search for lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and black rhinos during guided game drives. Masai Mara and Serengeti are particularly rewarding for lions, cheetahs and leopards, while Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Nakuru provide opportunities to spot endangered black rhinos.
Elephants, Giraffes & Plains Wildlife
Amboseli and Tarangire are renowned for their elephant herds. Across the safari, you may also encounter Maasai giraffes, Rothschild's giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, impalas, gazelles, warthogs and hippos.
Wildebeest & Great Migration
Masai Mara and Serengeti support large wildebeest and zebra populations. Seasonal Great Migration movements may be visible depending on travel dates and herd locations. River crossings and specific migration sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Flamingos & Birdlife
Lake Nakuru offers opportunities to observe flamingos, pelicans and other waterbirds, depending on lake conditions. Tarangire, Amboseli and Serengeti also support diverse birdlife, including ostriches, eagles, hornbills and colourful bee-eaters.
Wildlife sightings are natural and cannot be guaranteed. Your experienced safari driver-guides will select suitable game-drive routes based on wildlife movements, park conditions and the scheduled itinerary.
Best Time for a 10 Days Kenya Tanzania Budget Group Safari 2027–2028
The best time for a Kenya Tanzania budget group safari is June to October, when drier conditions generally make wildlife easier to spot. However, Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Amboseli, Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater offer rewarding wildlife experiences throughout the year.
Seasonal Safari Guide
| Travel Period | Wildlife & Weather Highlights |
|---|---|
| January–February | Generally drier conditions, excellent big-cat viewing, elephants and green landscapes. Calving occurs mainly in southern Serengeti and Ndutu. |
| March–May | Long-rain season, lush scenery, excellent birdwatching and fewer visitors. Some roads become muddy. |
| June–July | Drier conditions, strong elephant viewing in Amboseli and Tarangire, and northward wildebeest migration movements. |
| August–October | Peak safari season, with migration herds potentially present in Masai Mara, excellent predator viewing and generally dry conditions. |
| November–December | Short rains, greener landscapes, migratory birds and returning wildebeest movements towards southern Serengeti. |
Great Migration Expectations
July to October offers the strongest seasonal opportunity to encounter migration herds in Masai Mara. However, this itinerary spends two nights in central Serengeti at Seronera Campsite, rather than northern Serengeti.
The central Serengeti is excellent for year-round resident wildlife and big cats, but Mara River crossings in northern Serengeti and calving in Ndutu are not included in the standard route.
Travellers specifically seeking these migration experiences should request a dedicated seasonal migration safari.
Rainfall & Park Conditions
The main rainy season generally occurs from March to May, while shorter rains are common in November and December. Heavy rainfall may affect road conditions, driving times and game-drive routes.
June to October is generally drier, although early mornings can be cold, particularly at Ngorongoro Simba Campsite.
Which Season Should You Choose?
Best for general wildlife viewing: June–October.
Best for Masai Mara migration opportunities: July–October.
Best for fewer crowds and green landscapes: March–May and November.
Best for birdwatching: November–April.
Best for year-round big cats: Masai Mara and central Serengeti.
Safari Price: From USD 2,300 per adult sharing, subject to departure dates and seasonal availability.
Travel Times & Kenya–Tanzania Border Crossing
Our 10 Days Kenya Tanzania Budget Group Safari travels from Nairobi to Arusha, covering Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Amboseli, Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. The itinerary combines scenic road transfers, guided wildlife game drives and a border crossing at Namanga.
Estimated Safari Driving Times
| Safari Route | Approximate Driving Time |
|---|---|
| Nairobi → Masai Mara | 5–6 hours |
| Masai Mara → Lake Nakuru | 5–6 hours |
| Lake Nakuru → Amboseli | 7–9 hours |
| Amboseli → Namanga Border | 1.5–2.5 hours |
| Namanga Border → Arusha | 1.5–2 hours |
| Arusha → Tarangire | 2–2.5 hours |
| Tarangire → Central Serengeti | 6–8 hours |
| Serengeti → Ngorongoro Simba Campsite | 3–4 hours |
| Ngorongoro Crater → Arusha | 4–5 hours after the crater visit |
Please note: Driving times are estimates and exclude some game drives, immigration procedures, extended stops and unexpected delays. Lake Nakuru to Amboseli is a particularly long travel day.
Namanga Border Crossing – Kenya to Tanzania
On Day 5, travel from Amboseli to the Namanga border, where your safari team coordinates the cross-border transfer.
Complete Kenyan immigration exit formalities.
Present your passport and required Tanzanian entry documents.
Meet your Tanzanian safari driver-guide and transfer to the shared Tanzania safari vehicle.
Continue to Charity Hotel in Arusha for your overnight stay.
Border formalities typically require approximately 30–90 minutes but may take longer during busy periods.
Safari Vehicles & Luggage
Travel in shared 4×4 safari vehicles with pop-up roofs and a maximum of seven passengers per vehicle. A vehicle and driver-guide change takes place at Namanga.
We recommend one soft-sided travel bag per person, preferably weighing no more than 15 kg, plus a small daypack. Avoid oversized hard-shell suitcases, as luggage space in shared safari vehicles is limited.
Passport & Visa Requirements
Travellers must carry a passport with sufficient validity and any required Kenya and Tanzania entry permissions. Visa and electronic travel authorisation requirements depend on nationality.
Kenya and Tanzania visa fees are not included in the safari price. Travellers should arrange the appropriate entry documents before departure.

Safari Expert Insight – What to Expect on This 10-Day Adventure
With over 16 years of East African safari planning experience, I recommend this itinerary for travellers who want to experience Kenya and Tanzania's major wildlife destinations without the expense of a private safari.
The biggest advantage is wildlife diversity. Masai Mara and Serengeti offer excellent big-cat viewing, Lake Nakuru provides rhino opportunities, Amboseli and Tarangire are particularly rewarding for elephants, while Ngorongoro Crater offers concentrated wildlife viewing.
My practical advice: Be prepared for long road transfers, especially between Lake Nakuru and Amboseli. This is an adventure-focused safari rather than a relaxed luxury holiday. The two nights in Serengeti are particularly valuable because they provide a full day of wildlife exploration without changing camps.
For the best balance of wildlife viewing and generally drier conditions, I recommend June to October. Travellers specifically interested in Great Migration river crossings should consider a dedicated migration itinerary rather than relying on this standard route.

Frequently Asked Questions – 10 Days Kenya Tanzania Budget Group Safari
1. How much does the 10 Days Kenya Tanzania Budget Group Safari cost?
The safari starts from USD 2,300 per adult sharing, based on two adults sharing accommodation on an eligible group departure. Prices vary according to travel dates, seasonal park fees and availability. Child rates and single supplements are quoted separately.
2. Is this a private or shared group safari?
This is a shared budget group safari, with travellers joining scheduled departures in Kenya and Tanzania. Game drives take place in shared 4×4 safari vehicles with pop-up roofs, a maximum of seven passengers and window seats. Private safari arrangements are available on request.
3. Which national parks are included in the 10-day safari?
The itinerary visits six major wildlife destinations: Masai Mara National Reserve, Lake Nakuru National Park, Amboseli National Park, Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater.
4. Where does the safari start and end?
The safari starts in Nairobi, Kenya, with pickup from an agreed hotel or meeting point. It ends in Arusha, Tanzania, after the Ngorongoro Crater game drive. Additional airport transfers or accommodation can be arranged at an extra cost.
5. Are park entrance fees and Ngorongoro Crater fees included?
Yes. The safari price includes mandatory park entrance fees for the scheduled itinerary, Ngorongoro Conservation Area fees and the required crater vehicle descent fee. Optional activities, visa fees and personal expenses are excluded.
6. What accommodation is provided during the safari?
The package includes nine nights of accommodation: two nights at Miti Mingi Eco Camp, one at Buraha Zenoni Hotel, one at Nyati Safari Camp, one at Charity Hotel, one at Ngedere Camp, two at Seronera Public Campsite and one at Ngorongoro Simba Public Campsite. Comparable alternatives may be proposed before booking confirmation.
7. Is camping equipment included in the safari price?
Yes. For the three public camping nights in Serengeti and Ngorongoro, safari tents, sleeping mattresses, sleeping bags, pillows and cooking equipment are included. A camping crew assists with tent setup, meal preparation and campsite arrangements. Public campsites have shared toilets and washing facilities.
8. Can children join the Kenya Tanzania group safari?
Yes, children can join suitable group departures, subject to age, accommodation arrangements and available places. Child prices depend on age and applicable park fees. Families with younger children may prefer a private safari for greater flexibility.
9. How does the Kenya–Tanzania border crossing work?
On Day 5, travellers cross from Kenya into Tanzania at the Namanga border. After completing immigration formalities, guests meet their Tanzanian driver-guide and continue to Arusha in the designated Tanzania safari vehicle. Travellers must have the required passports, visas and entry documents.
10. What is the best time to visit Kenya and Tanzania?
June to October generally offers excellent wildlife viewing and drier conditions. July to October is particularly popular for Great Migration opportunities in Masai Mara. January to February is also rewarding for big cats and general wildlife viewing. Migration sightings and river crossings are not guaranteed.
11. Can solo travellers join, and is there a single supplement?
Yes. Solo travellers can request places on scheduled group departures. Shared accommodation may be available, depending on group arrangements. Travellers requesting a private room or single tent may pay an additional supplement, confirmed before booking.
12. How do I book the safari, and what deposit is required?
Contact East Africa Jungle with your travel dates, number of travellers and accommodation preferences. Our team will confirm group availability and provide a detailed quotation.
A 30% deposit secures the booking, followed by another 30% payment 21 days before departure. The remaining 40% is payable on arrival or before the safari begins, according to the confirmed booking terms. Card payments attract a 3.8% processing surcharge.
