7. Is Crescent Island included in the day tour?

Crescent Island is an optional activity and is not included in the standard safari price unless specifically stated in your quotation.

A guided Crescent Island walk can be added for travellers interested in experiencing wildlife on foot. Because this is already a long day, we recommend arranging the activity in advance so that sufficient time remains for your Lake Nakuru game drive.

8. Is this a private or group safari?

This tour operates as a private safari in a 4×4 safari Land Cruiser. You travel with your own party and safari driver-guide rather than following a fixed shared-group itinerary.

A private vehicle gives your group greater flexibility during the game drive, for photography stops and when planning your Lake Naivasha activities.

9. Is the Lake Nakuru & Lake Naivasha day tour suitable for children?

Yes. Families can take this day tour, particularly when children are comfortable with several hours of road travel and an early morning departure.

Because the safari is private, there is greater flexibility for comfort stops and family needs. For families with younger children who prefer a slower schedule, a 2-day Nakuru and Naivasha safari may be more comfortable.

10. Can you pick us up from Nairobi airport?

Airport pickup may be possible depending on your arrival time and flight schedule. However, because this itinerary requires an early departure for Lake Nakuru, arriving at Nairobi airport on the same morning may significantly reduce your available game-viewing time.

If you are arriving by air, provide your flight number and arrival time when requesting a quote so that we can advise whether the day tour is practical. For travellers already staying in Nairobi, pickup can be arranged from the hotel, residence or another agreed location.

From our experience planning Kenya safaris, we recommend treating Lake Nakuru as the main wildlife destination and Lake Naivasha as the contrasting afternoon experience rather than trying to divide the day equally between the two.

Why We Recommend Leaving Nairobi by 5:30–6:00 AM

An early departure is important because Nairobi to Lake Nakuru is the longest outward journey of the day. Leaving at approximately 5:30–6:00 AM gives you a better chance of reaching Lake Nakuru in time for a productive morning game drive.

A later departure can reduce the amount of time available inside the national park and may force you to choose between shortening your game drive and dropping one of the Lake Naivasha activities.

For this reason, we generally advise against a late-morning start for travellers who want to experience both destinations properly.

Why We Visit Lake Nakuru Before Lake Naivasha

We normally recommend visiting Lake Nakuru National Park first because wildlife viewing is the less predictable part of the itinerary.

Your guide needs sufficient time to search different sections of the park for black and white rhinos, Rothschild's giraffes, buffaloes, zebras and other wildlife. Animals do not follow a timetable, so rushing the game drive simply to reach Lake Naivasha earlier can reduce the quality of the safari.

Lake Naivasha activities are easier to plan around a specific afternoon schedule, making Nakuru → Naivasha the more practical sequence for most departures from Nairobi.

Don't Build the Safari Around Flamingos Alone

Lake Nakuru has a worldwide reputation for flamingos, but we do not recommend promising large flamingo concentrations when selling this safari.

Flamingo numbers can change as birds move between Rift Valley lakes according to water levels, food availability and environmental conditions. Some visits can produce rewarding flamingo sightings, while on other days numbers may be considerably lower.

We therefore plan the Lake Nakuru experience primarily around its rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes, varied habitats and birdlife, with flamingos treated as an additional possible highlight.

Boat Safari or Crescent Island – Which Should You Choose?

If time is limited, we generally recommend choosing the Lake Naivasha boat safari. It provides a contrasting experience after several hours in a safari vehicle and gives you opportunities to observe hippos and water birds from the lake.

Crescent Island is a better addition for travellers particularly interested in walking among plains wildlife and experiencing the landscape on foot.

It may be possible to combine the boat ride and Crescent Island, but we do not recommend forcing both activities into the itinerary if doing so significantly shortens the Lake Nakuru game drive or creates a rushed return journey.

When We Recommend the 2-Day Safari Instead

The one-day itinerary works particularly well for travellers who have only one free day in Nairobi and are comfortable with an early start, several hours of driving and an evening return.

However, we recommend the 2 Days Lake Nakuru & Lake Naivasha Safari for travellers who want:

• Longer wildlife-viewing time at Lake Nakuru

• More flexibility for photography

• Both the Lake Naivasha boat safari and Crescent Island

• A slower pace with fewer hours of driving in one day

For serious wildlife photographers, families wanting a relaxed itinerary or travellers who dislike long road days, the 2-day safari is generally the better choice.
