Serengeti Group Safari Accommodation – Camping & Lodge Options

elephants-crossing-the-serengeti-plains-on-a-tanzania-wildlife-safari

Where you stay can shape your Serengeti safari experience just as much as the game drives. Our Serengeti group safaris offer accommodation options for different travel styles, from simple campsites surrounded by nature to comfortable lodges and permanent tented camps.

A Serengeti camping safari is ideal for adventurous travellers who enjoy spending evenings outdoors and prefer to keep costs down. If you'd rather return from a game drive to a proper bed, private bathroom and more comfortable facilities, our selected mid-range lodge safaris may be a better fit.

Accommodation varies by itinerary and departure date. Before booking, we'll explain where you're staying, which facilities are available and whether you'll be sharing a room or tent.

Budget Serengeti Camping Safari

Budget camping brings you closer to the sights and sounds of the African bush without the higher accommodation costs of permanent safari lodges.

On selected group departures, guests stay at designated campsites such as Seronera Public Campsite in the Serengeti or Simba Campsite near Ngorongoro Crater. You'll typically sleep in a camping tent, use shared bathroom facilities and enjoy meals prepared by the safari cook.

What to expect:

  • Camping tents and basic sleeping equipment, as specified in your itinerary.

  • Shared toilets and showers at public campsites.

  • Meals prepared at camp, with picnic lunches during game drives.

  • A sociable atmosphere with fellow safari travellers.

  • Basic facilities rather than hotel-style comfort.

Best for: Solo travellers, backpackers, students and adventurous couples looking for an affordable Tanzania group safari.

Mid-Range Serengeti Lodge & Tented Camp Safari

For travellers who prefer extra comfort after a day exploring the Serengeti, our mid-range group safari options feature selected lodges and permanent tented camps.

Unlike basic camping, these properties generally offer proper beds, private bathrooms and furnished rooms or safari tents. You can still enjoy the atmosphere of the wilderness while returning to a more comfortable place to rest.

What to expect:

  • Proper beds with bedding and mosquito protection where provided.

  • Private bathrooms with toilets and showers.

  • Restaurant or camp dining facilities.

  • Twin or double accommodation, depending on your booking.

  • Selected properties inside or near the safari parks.

Best for: Couples, first-time safari visitors and travellers who want a balance between wildlife adventure and comfort.

Serengeti Camping vs Lodge Safari – What's the Difference?

Choosing the right accommodation is an important part of planning your Serengeti group safari. Budget camping offers an affordable experience close to nature, while mid-range lodges and tented camps provide additional comfort, often including private bathrooms and permanent beds.

Accommodation options depend on your selected itinerary, departure date and package category. Our team will confirm the proposed properties and room arrangements before booking.

Accommodation for Solo Travellers and Couples

Solo travellers can join our scheduled Serengeti group departures from Arusha and share the safari vehicle with other guests. Room or tent sharing depends on the selected package and the availability of a suitable sharing arrangement; it is not guaranteed.

If you prefer your own room or tent, a single supplement may apply. Couples can request a double room or tent, subject to availability.

Before booking, we confirm your accommodation, sharing arrangements and any supplements in your written quotation.

Best Time for a Serengeti Group Safari in 2027–2028

Leopard resting on a tree branch during a Tanzania safari

The best time for a Serengeti group safari depends on your wildlife interests. Central Serengeti offers year-round game viewing, while migration-focused trips should match your travel month to the appropriate region.

Serengeti Migration Guide by Season

PeriodTypical regionMain experience
January–MarchSouthern Serengeti / NdutuCalving season and predator activity
April–JuneCentral / Western SerengetiMoving herds and possible Grumeti crossings
July–OctoberNorthern SerengetiMigration herds and possible Mara River crossings
November–DecemberCentral / Eastern to Southern SerengetiHerds returning towards southern grazing areas

Migration timing varies with rainfall and grazing conditions. This is seasonal guidance, not a forecast for 2027–2028; sightings and river crossings cannot be guaranteed.

Do Group Safaris Follow the Great Migration?

Most short group safaris focus on Central Serengeti, offering rewarding resident wildlife viewing. They do not automatically visit Ndutu or the Northern Serengeti.

If the migration is your priority, choose a seasonal departure that reaches the relevant region and allow several days for game viewing. Share your dates and budget with our team to compare suitable options.

You can also consult the Tanzania National Parks Authority for official national park information.

What's Included in Our Serengeti Group Safari Packages?

Our Serengeti group safari packages are designed to make exploring Tanzania straightforward and affordable. From guided wildlife drives to accommodation and meals, the main safari arrangements are organised before your departure from Arusha.

Safari Price Excludes

  • International and domestic flights unless expressly included in the itinerary.

Yes. Our advertised Serengeti group safari packages include the applicable national park entry fees for the destinations listed in your confirmed itinerary.

For itineraries visiting Ngorongoro Crater, the quotation also specifies the applicable conservation-area entry and crater service fees.

Park fees depend on the parks visited, traveller categories and the official fee schedule in effect for your travel dates. We include the relevant charges in your confirmed safari quotation so you can compare packages based on their total cost.

Optional Serengeti Safari Activities

Some travellers wish to add experiences beyond their scheduled game drives. These activities are optional and are not included in the standard group safari price unless stated.

Serengeti Hot-Air Balloon Safari

Experience the Serengeti landscape from above during an early-morning balloon flight, usually followed by a bush breakfast.

Indicative cost: USD 625–650 per person. Confirm seasonal rates and availability.

Maasai Cultural Visit

On suitable routes, an optional visit to a Maasai community can offer an introduction to local traditions and daily life.

Serengeti Group Safari – Guest Review

★★★★★ 1. “An Unforgettable Serengeti Safari with Wonderful People”

Travel Month: August 2025

Country: United Kingdom

Group Type: Couple – Group Joining Safari Safari

Route: Arusha – Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater Safari Highlights: Lions, elephants, wildebeest, shared game drives and beautiful landscapes

Name: Xiaoming Lui

Our Serengeti group safari was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip to Tanzania. We joined a small group of travellers and quickly became friends as we explored the incredible Serengeti plains together.

The wildlife viewing was fantastic. We saw lions resting beneath acacia trees, elephants moving across the savannah and large herds of wildebeest. Our guide was knowledgeable, patient and always happy to answer questions.

Travelling in a group made the experience even more enjoyable, and we appreciated how smoothly everything was organised. We would happily recommend this safari to anyone visiting Tanzania.

★★★★★ 2. “Incredible Wildlife and an Excellent Safari Guide”

Travel Month: February 2025

Country: Germany

Group Type: Solo Traveller – Shared Safari Safari

Route: Arusha – Serengeti – Ngorongoro

Name: Cathy K

Safari Highlights: Big cats, photography, safari guiding and Ngorongoro Crater

I booked the Serengeti group safari as a solo traveller, and it turned out to be a wonderful decision. Sharing the adventure with other travellers made the entire experience more exciting.

Our guide knew the parks extremely well and took time to explain animal behaviour and the different ecosystems. One of my favourite moments was watching a pride of lions early in the morning, with the golden Serengeti landscape stretching behind them.

The vehicle was comfortable, the game drives were well planned, and I never felt rushed. The Ngorongoro Crater was another unforgettable highlight. An excellent experience from beginning to end.

★★★★★ 3. “Amazing Value for a Serengeti Group Safari”

Travel Month: June 2025

Country: Australia

Group Type: Friends – Group Joining Safari Safari

Route: Arusha – Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater

Name: Qui Rong

Safari Highlights: Affordable safari, wildlife photography, group atmosphere and game drives

We wanted to experience the Serengeti without booking an expensive private safari, and the group joining option suited us perfectly.

Everything was arranged well, from our departure in Arusha to the game drives and overnight stays. We travelled with a friendly group of people, and there was plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and take photographs.

Seeing giraffes, zebras, elephants and lions in their natural environment was something we will never forget. The Serengeti was even more beautiful than we imagined.

For travellers looking for a memorable Tanzania safari at a reasonable price, this type of group tour is a great choice.

★★★★★ 4. “The Serengeti Was Beyond Our Expectations”

Travel Month: September 2025

Country: Canada

Group Type: Couple – Small Group Safari Safari

Route: Arusha – Central Serengeti – Ngorongoro

Name: Karl W.

Safari Highlights: Serengeti sunrise, lions, elephants, scenic landscapes and shared safari experiences

Nothing quite prepares you for the beauty of the Serengeti. Watching the sunrise over the endless plains while searching for wildlife was truly magical.

Our group was small and friendly, which made the game drives relaxed and enjoyable. Our guide had an excellent eye for spotting animals and shared interesting stories about the wildlife and local environment.

We particularly loved seeing elephants crossing the plains and lions resting in the morning sunshine. Every day brought something different.

This safari gave us beautiful memories and a much deeper appreciation of Tanzania's wildlife.

Questions

1. How much does a Serengeti group safari cost in 2027–2028?

Our 3-day Serengeti group safari has an indicative starting price of USD 750 per person, while longer Tanzania group safaris vary according to duration, accommodation and destinations. Final 2027 prices depend on your departure date and package inclusions. For 2028, request an updated quotation based on confirmed supplier rates.

2. Can solo travellers join a Serengeti group safari?

Yes. Solo travellers are welcome on our scheduled Serengeti group safaris from Arusha. You'll share the safari vehicle with other guests, making it an affordable and sociable way to explore Tanzania. Accommodation-sharing arrangements vary, and a single-room supplement may apply.

3. How many people are in a Serengeti group safari?

Our group joining safaris generally accommodate 6–7 travellers per 4×4 Land Cruiser, accompanied by a professional English-speaking driver-guide. Group sizes and minimum departure requirements are confirmed before booking.

4. When do Serengeti group safaris depart from Arusha?

Selected Tanzania group safaris are scheduled to depart on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, subject to minimum numbers and confirmed availability. We recommend booking early for July–October and other popular travel periods.

5. Are Serengeti National Park fees included in the safari price?

Yes. Applicable Serengeti National Park entry fees are included in our confirmed safari packages. For itineraries visiting Ngorongoro Crater or Tarangire National Park, the quotation will also specify the relevant conservation, crater and park fees. Check the final inclusions before payment.

6. Can I see the Great Migration on a Serengeti group safari?

Yes, depending on the season and route. Standard group safaris generally visit Central Serengeti, while seasonal migration experiences may require travel to Ndutu or Northern Serengeti. Wildebeest movements and Mara River crossings are natural events and cannot be guaranteed.

7. What accommodation is provided on a Serengeti group safari?

Choose your preferred safari, travel dates and accommodation category, then contact our team to confirm availability.
