6 Days Tanzania Big Five & Great Migration Safari Overview
Experience Tanzania's famous Northern Safari Circuit on a six-day private wildlife safari through Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater.
Begin in Tarangire, known for its elephant herds and ancient baobab trees, before continuing to Central Serengeti for three nights of exceptional wildlife viewing. Two full days of game drives provide opportunities to search for lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes and other wildlife. Complete your adventure with a game drive inside Ngorongoro Crater, one of Tanzania's best locations for spotting the endangered black rhino.
Travel in a private 4×4 Land Cruiser with an experienced English-speaking safari guide, staying at selected mid-range lodges and tented camps.
Big Five Safari or Great Migration? The standard itinerary focuses on year-round wildlife viewing in Central Serengeti. Travellers interested in the wildebeest calving season in Ndutu or Mara River crossings in Northern Serengeti can request a customised seasonal itinerary, with accommodation and game-drive routes adjusted to their travel dates.
The standard Central Serengeti itinerary does not include a dedicated Mara River crossing excursion.
Choose Your Tanzania Big Five & Great Migration Safari Experience
The best Serengeti safari experience depends on when you travel and which wildlife you hope to see. Our standard 6-day Tanzania safari explores Tarangire, Central Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, offering excellent year-round opportunities to encounter the Big Five and other African wildlife.
For travellers interested in the Great Migration, we can customise the route to include the Ndutu calving grounds or Northern Serengeti's Mara River region during the appropriate seasons.

The Serengeti is one of Africa's most celebrated wildlife destinations, supporting large populations of lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes and numerous antelope species.
Enjoy wildlife viewing along the route to your camp, subject to arrival time and park regulations.

Safari activity: Full-day Serengeti wildlife and seasonal migration game drive.
Today is dedicated to exploring more of Serengeti National Park, with a focus on exceptional wildlife viewing and seasonal Great Migration opportunities.
The Great Wildebeest Migration is one of the world's most remarkable wildlife phenomena, involving large herds of wildebeest and zebras moving through the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem in response to rainfall and fresh grazing.
Your guide will plan the day's route around wildlife activity, weather conditions and the most promising areas accessible from your camp.
During suitable seasons, you may encounter migrating herds, grazing animals and predators following the movement of prey.
Outside the main migration periods in central Serengeti, the park continues to offer excellent resident wildlife viewing, particularly lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants and buffaloes.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park before continuing your afternoon safari.
Return to your tented camp for dinner and overnight accommodation.
Important Migration Note: The standard itinerary is based in central Serengeti. Best Time for the Big Five & Great Migration in Tanzania
Tanzania's Northern Safari Circuit offers excellent wildlife-viewing opportunities throughout the year. However, the best time and location for a Great Migration safari depend on the seasonal movement of wildebeest and zebras across the Serengeti ecosystem.
Our standard six-day Big Five safari stays in Central Serengeti, an excellent year-round destination for resident wildlife, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants and buffaloes.
For travellers prioritising specific Great Migration experiences, we recommend the following seasonal adjustments:
January–March: Ndutu and Southern Serengeti for calving-season wildlife, particularly around January and February.
April–June: Central and Western Serengeti for seasonal herd movements, depending on rainfall.
July–October: Northern Serengeti for opportunities to witness Mara River crossings.
November–December: Central, Eastern or Southern Serengeti, depending on the returning herds and seasonal rainfall.
Our Safari Planning Recommendation
Choose the standard Central Serengeti itinerary for a well-rounded private Big Five safari at any time of year.
If witnessing wildebeest calving or Mara River crossings is your main priority, request a seasonally customised Great Migration itinerary. We will recommend suitable camp locations, travel routes and safari durations based on your departure dates.
Please note: River crossings and migration sightings are natural events and cannot be guaranteed. Northern Serengeti migration safaris require a revised itinerary and quotation.

Please share your flight details when enquiring so we can coordinate your arrival and departure arrangements.
8. Is the 6 Days Tanzania Big Five Safari suitable for children and families?
Yes. This private safari is suitable for families with children, with flexible game drives and accommodation arrangements based on your family's needs. Children's rates depend on age, room sharing and applicable park fees. Families should consider the longer driving days between Karatu and Serengeti. Please provide each child's age when requesting a quotation so we can recommend suitable rooms and pricing.
9. Can we see the Great Migration or Mara River crossings on this safari?
The standard itinerary includes three nights in Central Serengeti, offering excellent year-round wildlife viewing and possible encounters with migrating wildebeest during suitable periods. However, it does not include a dedicated Mara River crossing excursion. Travellers interested in Ndutu calving or Northern Serengeti crossings should request a customised itinerary with revised accommodation and pricing. Migration movements and river crossings cannot be guaranteed.
10. How do I book the safari, and what is the cancellation policy?
To book, send us your preferred travel dates, number of travellers and accommodation requirements. We will prepare a personalised quotation and confirm availability before requesting a deposit. Our standard payment schedule is 30% to confirm the booking, a further 30% due 21 days before travel, and the remaining balance before or upon arrival as agreed. Cancellation refunds or credits depend on the notice period and applicable booking terms, which we provide before confirmation.

★★★★★ “An Unforgettable Big Five Safari in Tanzania”
“Our six-day Tanzania safari was an incredible adventure from beginning to end. Tarangire's elephants were amazing, and the Serengeti offered some of the most memorable wildlife encounters of our trip. We especially loved exploring the national parks in a private Land Cruiser and having time to appreciate the animals without feeling rushed.
Ngorongoro Crater was another highlight, with beautiful scenery and wonderful wildlife viewing. The combination of exciting game drives, comfortable accommodation and stunning landscapes made this an unforgettable African safari.”

“Exploring the Serengeti was the highlight of our Tanzania holiday. The endless plains, incredible wildlife and atmosphere of the tented camp made every day special. Watching wildebeest and zebras moving across the savannah was an experience we will always remember.
Having a knowledgeable safari guide made a real difference. We enjoyed learning about animal behaviour, exploring different wildlife habitats and spending time photographing the animals. It was exactly the kind of African safari adventure we had hoped for.”
