Domestic & Cross-Border Safari Flights – Kenya, Tanzania & Zanzibar
Our 12 Days Kenya & Tanzania Luxury Family Safari combines scenic safari flights with carefully coordinated ground transfers, allowing families to explore the Masai Mara, Serengeti National Park and Zanzibar without lengthy inter-destination road journeys.
Instead of driving between Nairobi, the Masai Mara, Serengeti and Zanzibar, your family will travel using scheduled domestic flights and a coordinated Kenya–Tanzania cross-border connection.
East Africa Jungle assists with flight planning, airstrip transfers, immigration arrangements and luggage requirements to help make your family safari comfortable and convenient.
1. Nairobi Wilson Airport to Masai Mara – Day 2
Following breakfast at Argyle Grand Hotel, your family will enjoy a private transfer to Wilson Airport for a scheduled safari flight to the Masai Mara.
The flight typically takes approximately 45–75 minutes, depending on the airline, route and intermediate airstrip stops.
Upon arrival at the designated Masai Mara airstrip, your safari guide will welcome your family and arrange the transfer to Mara Serena Safari Lodge.
Depending on your arrival time, enjoy lunch and relaxation before your afternoon game drive.
Flight Details:
Departure Airport: Nairobi Wilson Airport (WIL).
Arrival: Designated Masai Mara airstrip serving Mara Serena Safari Lodge.
Flight Type: Scheduled domestic safari flight.
Estimated Flying Time: Approximately 45–75 minutes.
Ground Transfers: Nairobi hotel to Wilson Airport and Masai Mara airstrip to lodge.
2. Masai Mara to Serengeti – Cross-Border Safari Flight Connection (Day 5)
Travelling from Kenya's Masai Mara to Tanzania's Serengeti involves an organised cross-border connection rather than a standard direct domestic flight.
After breakfast at Mara Serena Safari Lodge, your family will transfer to the appropriate Masai Mara airstrip for a scheduled flight to Migori.
From Migori, continue by road to the Isebania/Sirari border, where immigration and entry formalities are completed.
After crossing into Tanzania, transfer to Tarime Airport for your onward scheduled flight to a Serengeti airstrip, normally Seronera for this itinerary.
Your Tanzanian safari guide will meet your family and arrange the transfer to Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge.
Flight & Transfer Details:
Departure: Masai Mara airstrip.
Kenya Flight Connection: Masai Mara to Migori.
Border Crossing: Isebania (Kenya) / Sirari (Tanzania).
Tanzania Flight Connection: Tarime to Serengeti.
Arrival: Seronera Airstrip or another suitable Serengeti airstrip.
Final Transfer: Serengeti airstrip to Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge.
Travel Duration: Allow much of the day for flights, road transfers, immigration and connections.
Important: Flight schedules, connection availability and border arrangements must be confirmed for your specific travel dates. The cross-border journey is not advertised as a nonstop Masai Mara–Serengeti flight.
3. Serengeti to Zanzibar – Day 8
After breakfast at Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge, your family will transfer to Seronera Airstrip for the scheduled flight to Zanzibar.
Depending on the airline and operating schedule, the flight may operate directly or include intermediate stops.
Upon arrival at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ), your family will be welcomed and transferred privately to Diamonds Mapenzi Beach Resort.
Enjoy four nights of beach relaxation following your wildlife safari.
Flight Details:
Departure: Seronera Airstrip, Serengeti.
Arrival: Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ).
Flight Type: Scheduled domestic flight, direct or with intermediate stops.
Estimated Travel Time: Commonly around 2–3 hours, depending on routing; longer connections are possible.
Ground Transfer: Zanzibar Airport to Diamonds Mapenzi Beach Resort.
4. Safari Flight Baggage Allowance for Families
Your 12-day Kenya and Tanzania luxury family safari combines scheduled light-aircraft flights, private road transfers and game drives to connect the Masai Mara, Serengeti and Zanzibar.
East Africa Jungle coordinates your planned flight connections and ground transfers according to the confirmed itinerary, helping your family travel comfortably between destinations.
Masai Mara to Serengeti Flight Connection
Your cross-border journey involves a scheduled flight from the Masai Mara to the Migori area, a road transfer to the Isebania/Sirari border for Kenya and Tanzania immigration formalities, followed by a transfer to the Tarime airstrip area and an onward scheduled flight to the Serengeti.
The connection involves separate flights and ground transfers rather than one direct international flight.
Flight schedules, immigration processing and transfer arrangements are coordinated in advance. Exact departure times and the arrival airstrip will be confirmed with your booking.
Safari Flight Luggage Allowance
Small safari aircraft have limited luggage space and operate under strict weight restrictions.
For planning purposes, we recommend packing no more than 15 kg (33 lb) per person, including hand luggage, in a soft-sided travel bag.
The actual allowance depends on the airline operating each flight. Some carriers permit 20 kg, while others enforce a 15 kg combined allowance.
Use soft-sided duffel bags whenever possible.
Include camera equipment and personal belongings within the applicable weight allowance.
Avoid oversized hard-shell suitcases.
Request approval for excess baggage before departure.
Keep passports, essential medication and valuables in your personal hand luggage.
Families travelling with additional children's equipment, including strollers or car seats, should notify East Africa Jungle before booking flights.
Flying With Children and Infants
Children are welcome on scheduled safari flights, subject to the operating airline's safety and booking requirements.
Infants under 2 years: Some airlines permit infants to travel on an accompanying adult's lap without a separate seat. Minimum-age restrictions, baggage allowances and infant limits may apply.
Children aged 2–11 years: Children generally require their own seats. Child fares and age classifications vary between airlines.
Teenagers aged 12–17 years: Airline fares and seating conditions depend on the operating carrier. Adult fares may apply.
Travel documents: Every child must have the required passport and entry documents for Kenya and Tanzania. Additional parental consent or birth documentation may be required depending on nationality and travel circumstances.
East Africa Jungle will confirm the applicable airline conditions for your children's ages before issuing flight tickets.
Flight Delays, Weather & Connection Changes
Safari flights operate according to weather conditions, aircraft availability, airstrip conditions and aviation safety requirements.
Occasionally, departure times, aircraft routing or connections may change.
If a scheduled flight is delayed, cancelled or rescheduled, East Africa Jungle will assist with communication and available alternative arrangements.
Where necessary, this may involve a later flight, revised ground transfer or an adjusted itinerary, subject to airline availability and applicable charges.
We recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering flight disruptions, missed connections, medical emergencies and unexpected accommodation expenses.
Serengeti to Zanzibar Flight
Following your Serengeti safari, your family will travel by scheduled flight to Zanzibar according to the confirmed itinerary.
The flight may operate directly or involve an intermediate stop, depending on the airline and travel date.
Upon arrival in Zanzibar, your arranged private transfer will take you to Diamonds Mapenzi Beach Resort for your four-night All-Inclusive beach stay.
Important: Final flight schedules, airline baggage allowances, child policies and connection details will be confirmed before travel.
5. Family Flight Planning & Airport Transfers
East Africa Jungle coordinates your scheduled safari flights and related ground transfers according to the confirmed itinerary.
Our family flight-planning arrangements include:
Coordinating suitable flight connections between safari destinations.
Arranging private transfers between hotels, airports and airstrips where included.
Providing flight reporting times and baggage instructions before departure.
Helping families understand Kenya–Tanzania border requirements.
Coordinating safari guide handovers between Kenya and Tanzania.
Advising families about luggage restrictions and child travel requirements.
Planning suitable transfer arrangements for children and teenagers.
Flight times, airlines, airstrips and transfers will be confirmed before departure.
6. Passports, Visas & Cross-Border Requirements
Because this luxury family safari visits both Kenya and Tanzania, travellers must meet the immigration requirements of each country.
Every traveller, including infants and children, should have their own valid passport and any required travel authorisation or visa.
For many international visitors, Kenya requires an approved Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA), while Tanzania may require an appropriate visa depending on nationality.
Families should also check passport validity, yellow fever vaccination documentation where applicable and any additional requirements for children travelling with one parent or guardian.
East Africa Jungle can provide practical travel information, but entry approval remains the responsibility of the relevant immigration authorities.
Why Choose a Fly-In Luxury Family Safari?
A fly-in family safari helps reduce lengthy road transfers, allowing more time to enjoy wildlife experiences, comfortable accommodation and family relaxation.
By combining scenic flights with coordinated ground transfers, this itinerary provides a convenient way to experience Kenya's Masai Mara, Tanzania's Serengeti and Zanzibar's Indian Ocean beaches in one 12-day holiday.
Private Safari Vehicles, Group Size & Travel Style
Your 12 Days Kenya & Tanzania Luxury Family Safari combines private wildlife game drives with scheduled domestic safari flights and coordinated cross-border transfers. The journey is designed for families seeking comfort, flexibility and personalised wildlife experiences in the Masai Mara and Serengeti.
Private 4×4 Safari Vehicles & Group Size
Enjoy private game drives in a 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, providing excellent wildlife-viewing and photography opportunities. Each standard vehicle accommodates a maximum of seven guests, with window seats for all passengers.
Your family travels together without sharing its game-drive vehicle with unrelated guests. Larger families may require an additional vehicle, depending on group size and seating requirements.
Professional Safari Guides & Family-Friendly Game Drives
Experienced safari driver-guides lead your wildlife experiences in Kenya and Tanzania, sharing their knowledge of animal behaviour, conservation and the surrounding landscapes.
Because your safari is private, game drives can be planned around your family's interests, with suitable photography stops, rest breaks and a comfortable pace for children and teenagers, subject to park regulations and daily travel requirements.
Safari Flights & Cross-Border Transfers
Scheduled light-aircraft flights connect key destinations, reducing lengthy road journeys. These flights may carry other passengers and operate according to airline schedules.
Travel between the Masai Mara and Serengeti involves a coordinated flight, road transfer and Kenya–Tanzania border crossing. Your exact flight arrangements, luggage allowance and transfer details will be confirmed before departure.
For more information, see our Kenya–Tanzania Border Crossing & Flight Connections section.

Great Migration & Big Five Wildlife Experiences – Masai Mara & Serengeti
The Masai Mara and Serengeti form part of the greater Mara–Serengeti ecosystem, renowned for its wildlife diversity and seasonal wildebeest migration.
Throughout the year, families may encounter lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, cheetahs and numerous bird species. Sightings vary with weather, habitat and animal movement and cannot be guaranteed.
Understanding the Great Migration
The Great Migration follows seasonal rainfall and grazing conditions rather than a fixed calendar.
January–March: Calving generally occurs in the southern Serengeti and Ndutu region.
April–June: Herds typically move through the central and western Serengeti.
July–October: Northern Serengeti and Masai Mara may offer opportunities to observe migrating herds and river crossings.
November–December: Herds generally move south through the Serengeti as seasonal conditions change.
River crossings are unpredictable and cannot be guaranteed. The likelihood of seeing migration herds depends on your travel dates and the areas included in your confirmed itinerary.
Wildlife Viewing for Families
Private game drives allow families to spend time observing animal behaviour, learning about conservation and enjoying wildlife photography. Your guide can adapt viewing stops and breaks to children's interests, subject to park rules and daily travel requirements.
Best Time for a Kenya, Tanzania & Zanzibar Family Safari – 2027–2028
The Masai Mara, Serengeti and Zanzibar offer rewarding family travel experiences throughout the year. The best time depends on your preferred wildlife encounters, school holiday dates and beach holiday expectations.
June to October – Dry-Season Wildlife Viewing
Generally excellent for wildlife viewing, with drier conditions across much of the Masai Mara and Serengeti. The Great Migration may reach the northern Serengeti and Masai Mara during this period, although river crossings are unpredictable.
November to March – Green Landscapes & Calving Season
Enjoy greener scenery, birdlife and seasonal wildlife activity. The southern Serengeti and Ndutu region are particularly associated with wildebeest calving between approximately January and March, although this itinerary visits the central Serengeti.
April to May – Green Season & Fewer Visitors
These months generally experience heavier rainfall, which can affect game-drive conditions and outdoor activities. Some properties may offer seasonal rates.
Zanzibar Beach Holiday Weather
June to October and January to February generally provide favourable conditions for beach holidays. April and May typically bring heavier rainfall.
Our Recommendation: July to October is particularly attractive for families prioritising dry-season wildlife viewing, while January to March offers beautiful green-season landscapes. Book early for school holiday departures.
Family Safari Safety, Health & Travel Requirements
Your family's safety, comfort and well-being are central to our 12 Days Kenya & Tanzania Luxury Family Safari. From wildlife experiences in the Masai Mara and Serengeti to beach relaxation in Zanzibar, East Africa Jungle helps families travel confidently with practical safety guidance and coordinated arrangements.
Is This Luxury Safari Suitable for Children of Different Ages?
Our private family safari accommodates children and teenagers of different ages, with flexible game drives and four nights of beach relaxation in Zanzibar. Activities can be adjusted to suit children's interests and energy levels, subject to travel schedules and park regulations.
| Age group | Safari experiences | Recommended arrangements |
|---|---|---|
| Toddlers (under 3) | Gentle wildlife viewing and lodge relaxation | Shorter drives, naps, child restraints and advance flight planning |
| Young children (3–7) | Elephant sightings, animal identification and wildlife storytelling | Regular breaks, snacks and shorter game drives |
| Older children (8–11) | Big Five viewing, nature learning and wildlife photography | Binoculars, wildlife journals and interactive guiding |
| Teenagers (12–17) | Extended game drives, photography and conservation experiences | Longer wildlife viewing and age-appropriate optional activities |
Family Travel Tip: Private 4×4 safari vehicles offer greater flexibility than shared safaris. Families with infants or toddlers should discuss flight restrictions, travel distances and suitable accommodation before booking.
Swimming Pool Safety & Children's Supervision
Argyle Grand Hotel, Mara Serena Safari Lodge, Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge and Diamonds Mapenzi Beach Resort offer swimming pool facilities.
Parents or guardians must actively supervise children around pools, regardless of lifeguard availability. Follow property safety rules, use suitable flotation aids where appropriate and observe beach, tide and ocean-current precautions in Zanzibar. Confirm pool supervision arrangements directly with each property.
Wildlife Safari Safety in Masai Mara & Serengeti
Wild animals roam freely throughout the safari parks and surrounding lodge environments. Follow your professional guide's instructions at all times.
Remain inside the safari vehicle unless your guide permits you to exit.
Never approach, touch or feed wildlife.
Keep children seated and appropriately restrained while driving.
Do not stand through the pop-up roof while the vehicle is moving.
Supervise children around safari lodges and respect park safety regulations.
Request suitable child seating arrangements before departure.
Passports, Kenya eTA & Tanzania Visa Requirements
Every traveller, including infants, requires a valid passport. Allow at least six months' validity and check nationality-specific requirements.
Many visitors require a Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA), while Tanzania visa requirements depend on nationality. Families travelling with children may need additional documents, including birth certificates or parental consent letters.
Check current requirements through Kenya eTA and Tanzania Immigration.
Vaccinations, Malaria Prevention & Family Health
Consult a travel-health professional preferably 4–6 weeks before departure for age-appropriate medical advice.
Yellow Fever: Proof of vaccination may be required when entering Tanzania from Kenya, subject to applicable exemptions.
Malaria: Discuss suitable preventive medication and mosquito protection for adults and children.
Vaccinations: Ensure routine immunisations are current and review additional travel recommendations.
General Health: Use safe drinking water, practise food hygiene and protect children from sun exposure and dehydration.
Travel Insurance & Emergency Medical Assistance
Comprehensive family travel insurance should cover medical treatment, emergency evacuation, repatriation, trip cancellation, flight disruptions and lost baggage.
AMREF Flying Doctors evacuation arrangements may be available on request. Evacuation membership does not replace comprehensive medical insurance.
Family Safety Planning With East Africa Jungle
East Africa Jungle helps coordinate family accommodation, scheduled flights, airport transfers, private game drives and suitable child seating arrangements.
Please share your children's ages, dietary needs and any special travel requirements before booking so we can help plan a safe, comfortable and enjoyable Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar family safari.
What to Pack for Your Luxury Family Safari – Kenya, Tanzania & Zanzibar
Packing for a 12 Days Kenya & Tanzania Luxury Family Safari requires a balance of practical safari clothing, children's essentials and comfortable beachwear for Zanzibar.
Because your journey includes scheduled flights between Nairobi, the Masai Mara, Serengeti and Zanzibar, we recommend packing light and using soft-sided luggage suitable for smaller safari aircraft.
Essential Safari Clothing for Adults & Children
Choose lightweight, breathable clothing in neutral colours such as khaki, beige, olive and brown.
| Packing Item | Recommended Quantity Per Person |
|---|---|
| Lightweight safari shirts | 4–5 |
| Comfortable trousers or safari shorts | 3–4 |
| Warm fleece or light jacket | 1–2 |
| Comfortable walking shoes | 1 pair |
| Sandals or casual footwear | 1 pair |
| Sun hat or cap | 1 |
| Lightweight rain jacket | 1 |
| Sleepwear and underwear | As required |
| Swimwear | 2 sets |
| Sunglasses | 1 pair |
Early morning game drives can be cool, particularly in the Masai Mara, so pack a warm layer for adults and children.
Laundry availability varies by property and may involve additional charges.
Children's Safari Essentials
Families travelling with young children should pack familiar items that help make flights, game drives and hotel stays more comfortable.
Recommended children's essentials include:
Age-appropriate sunscreen and insect repellent.
Sun hats, comfortable shoes and lightweight clothing.
Refillable water bottles.
Favourite snacks for travel days.
Small backpacks for personal belongings.
Children's binoculars or a wildlife identification book.
Colouring materials, travel games or a safari journal.
Familiar comfort items for younger children.
Baby supplies, nappies and wipes where applicable.
Any prescribed medication and relevant medical instructions.
Parents travelling with infants should confirm airline and lodge arrangements for baby equipment, cots and suitable child seating before departure.
Safari Photography & Wildlife Viewing Equipment
The Masai Mara and Serengeti offer excellent opportunities for family wildlife photography.
Consider packing:
Camera or smartphone with sufficient storage.
Binoculars for adults and older children.
Spare batteries and charging cables.
Power bank compliant with airline restrictions.
Universal travel adaptor.
Protective camera bag.
Small daypack for game-drive essentials.
Avoid carrying excessive equipment, particularly when travelling on small safari aircraft.
Zanzibar Beach Holiday Packing List
After your safari, you will spend four nights at Diamonds Mapenzi Beach Resort.
For the beach portion of your holiday, pack:
Lightweight beachwear and casual resort clothing.
Swimwear for adults and children.
Sandals or flip-flops.
Wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses.
Reef-conscious sunscreen.
Lightweight cover-ups for sun protection.
Water shoes where useful.
Modest clothing for Stone Town and cultural visits.
Suitable clothing for optional boat or marine excursions.
Beach and ocean activities depend on weather, tides and the suitability of each activity for your children.
Safari Flight Luggage Restrictions
Domestic safari flights often use smaller aircraft with stricter luggage restrictions than international airlines.
| Baggage Type | Recommended Planning Guidance |
|---|---|
| Main luggage | Soft-sided duffel or safari bag |
| Typical allowance | Often 15 kg per person, including hand luggage |
| Additional hand luggage | Only where separately permitted by the airline |
| Hard-shell suitcases | May be restricted |
| Pushchairs and child equipment | Require advance airline confirmation |
| Excess baggage | Subject to available space and additional charges |
Important: The final baggage allowance depends on the airlines operating your Wilson–Masai Mara, Masai Mara–Serengeti and Serengeti–Zanzibar flights. Some carriers apply a combined 15 kg allowance, while others may have different limits.
East Africa Jungle will provide the applicable baggage information once your flights are confirmed.
Important Travel Documents & Personal Essentials
Keep the following items in your hand luggage:
Valid passports for all family members.
Kenya eTA or exemption documentation, where applicable.
Tanzania visa approval or relevant entry documents.
Yellow fever vaccination certificates where required.
Travel insurance details.
Flight confirmations and accommodation vouchers.
Copies of important travel documents.
Emergency contact information.
Prescribed medication and essential personal items.
Parental consent documentation where applicable.
Family Packing Tips for a Comfortable Safari
Pack a small day bag containing drinking water, sunscreen, hats, snacks, wipes and any essential medication.
Dress children in layers for early morning game drives, and avoid overpacking because domestic safari flights have limited baggage capacity.
For families with young children, a soft-sided bag and compact travel essentials are generally more practical than large hard-shell suitcases.
East Africa Jungle provides pre-departure packing guidance to help families prepare for their Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar luxury safari.
